A lifetime Commitment

The alumni who led the recharting effort celebrated their accomplishment at the 100th Anniversary

Being a Phi Psi is a lifetime bond - and a lifetime commitment.

Ask any Phi Psi brother what they value about their fraternity experience and it always boils down to a lifetime of friendship. The bonds forged in our college years last forever. Till death do us part.

Creating those bonds took work. Years of chapter meetings, recruiting events, retreats, initiations, study tables, Monday Night Dinners, work parties, and, yes, party parties brought us closer day-by-day until we all felt like this was the best experience of our life.

But ask yourself, what have you done since graduating to give back to the fraternity? We have an amazing group of young men living at 729 E. 11th who want your involvement. Our annual member survey shows they want career advice, stories about our time in the house, and help making their experience the best it can be. They want to live in a chapter house that can compete against all the new apartment complexes now available to students. They want a house corporation and chapter advisory team to partner with as they learn how to run a fraternity. They want to learn – from you.

As we prepare to celebrate Founders Day, think about where you might be able to lend your time, expertise and resources as part of your lifetime commitment to Phi Psi. Here are just a few ideas:

House Corporation: The creation of the chapter advisory team has offloaded many responsibilities of the house corporation which now focuses on facilities and financial issues. The group has monthly video calls and asks for volunteer help on issues that arise. Brothers from the early 90s make up most of the board, so all you brothers from the 70s and 80s who are retired, retiring, or empty-nesting, the house could use your perspective.

Chapter Advisory Team: This team works directly with the chapter to guide scholarship, philanthropy, mentoring, risk management and other issues on campus. It also has monthly video calls. Our leader, Colin Petitt, is leaving his post to attend to big things in his life and we have several positions open. This is a great place for younger alumni to get involved.

Mentorship: As the chapter grows, more students will be interested in mentorship, and we’ll need lots of alumni volunteers. With only a 6-hour minimum time commitment for the year, it’s an easy way to give back. Register as a mentor today.

Information about these opportunities will always be on the website and we will also use email to get the word out, so please add alumni@oregonphipsi.org to your contacts and safe-sender list to keep us out of your junk email folder.

Finally, Founders Day is being held in Portland again this year to make it convenient for many of our alumni to attend. Don’t wait till next year. Mark your calendar and register today.
