mentoring momentum

The mentoring program started as a concept but is quickly evolving into an important opportunity to make an impact for students and set Phi Psi apart on campus. The successful mentor-mentee pairings from last year prompted more members to express an interest this year, and we understand that one new member pledged Phi Psi in the fall specifically because of the mentoring program. That’s exactly what we want to see!
The Mentoring Advantage Program (MAP) was developed by the Phi Kappa Psi Foundation in 2023 to foster the development of brothers nationwide. It is part of what they call the Nine Dimensions of Wellness which address interconnected aspects of your life such as emotional and social health. Our 2025-26 mentoring program will focus on two dimensions of that framework: Intellectual Health and Occupational Health.
We have 15 undergraduate members registered and paired with alumni which exceeds our goal of 25% chapter participation by 4 students. And we have 30 alumni registered who are available for new student registrations and informational interviews. We are really excited about the level of interest and commitment this year!
We are also excited about our new program structure that takes Oregon Alpha mentoring to the next level nationally. The program now has an outline of discussion topics and suggested outcomes for six meetings to guide the mentors and mentees through the process. Mentors receive a Program Guide to learn about the goals, structure and approach of our mentoring program, and both alumni and students get a Program Workbook that gives them a framework for the meetings.
We also have an undergraduate leader for the mentoring program this year. Brother Adam Darvishian (’24-1823) oversees promoting the program in the chapter, recruiting mentees, and checking in with them to make sure they are having a good experience. We’ll work together at the end of the year to gather feedback, identify areas for improvement, and provide input to the national director.
To learn more about the mentoring program, visit the Alumni section on the Oregon Alpha website (www.oregonphipsi.org) which has a link to register. We need a large pool of alumni volunteers to match a variety of student interests plus this is a great way to support the chapter without a big time commitment. I hope you’ll consider getting involved.
